The historical location was found near the Templebreedy Church, and is believed to be the remnants of an ancient village dating back over 5,000 years. This site is believed to be from the same late Stone Age/Early Bronze Age era as another settlement found during a major home construction project in Crosshaven last year. The find has been cordoned off by experts until all objects of value have been removed, and crews say work on the new motorway will continue on schedule. The settlement was found by Ballyhemiken near Ringaskiddy, and is believed a farmer's house dating back around 5,700 years. Medieval weapons, kitchen tools and pottery shards were just some of the findings unearthed last week by the 50 archaeologists helping workers in the new Cork to Ringaskiddy motorway project. Crews working on the new road linking Ringaskiddy to the Jack Lynch Tunnel have been stopped in their tracks by the discovery of a 6,000-year-old Stone Age settlement.
